Viking - CMS - LOGGS - Decommissioning Study

Project description: ConocoPhillips (UK) Ltd has reviewed the possibility of decommissioning the infrastructure within the Viking, CMS and LOGGS Fields located in the Central and Southern North Sea Sectors.

ConocoPhillips requested PDi to perform a technical and commercial (cost) assessment study with respect to the decommissioning of the individual fields.

Our scope: The objective of the study was to review the possible issues and decommissioning alternatives in respect of interfield pipelines, umbilical’s and trunk lines.

The study deliverables were as follows:

•    A review of pipeline decommissioning in respect of statutory requirements, legal obligations and International/National conventions and laws
•    A provisional review of the preparatory works to be undertaken prior to the actual decommissioning.
•    A detailed decommissioning review identifying all the relevant techniques and methodologies applicable to pipelines and umbilicals.
•    Selection of the most appropriate decommissioning process
•    Identification of the specific environmental concerns/risks with regard to pipeline decommissioning.
•    A review of NORM and LSA with regard to the decommissioning  of pipelines.
•    A detailed cost estimate for the whole of the Viking, CMS and LOGGS Fields (Umbilicals, Interfield and Trunk pipelines)

Only decommissioning of the pipelines and the umbilical were considered, platforms and subsea structures were not taken into account in this study.
